The best green spaces to explore in Barcelona

When planning your future outdoor excursions to Barcelona parks, you can’t miss Montjuic. This area is a favourite for locals and tourists alike, as it offers so many elements that represent our spectacular city. The area boasts Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, or the MNAC art museum, Montjuic Castle, and Las Arenas, a nearby bull ring turned shopping centre.  Famous fountains below the palace host regular light shows, so you can easily make a day of exploring this area without running out of things to do!

The nationwide lockdown in Spain has us all dreaming of our favourite outdoor spaces. Whether you prefer hikes with epic views or having a refreshing drink in the plaza with friends, it’s safe to say we are all ready to embrace the outdoors as soon as we can. If you’re wondering what to do, Barcelona has some amazing green spaces to check out after quarantine ends.

While we are all finding creative ways to enjoy our time at home, we may find our minds wandering to a picnic in one of the many Barcelona parks, or a stroll along the boardwalk. There are so many amazing spaces in Barcelona to enjoy a bit of nature, so we decided to indulge in our daydreams a bit. That’s why we've compiled a list of outdoor places to see in Barcelona once lockdown is lifted.

When we head out to stretch our legs and enjoy our beautiful city again, we will all want a good dose of nature. Barceloneta Beach

Barcelona parks places to see

If you’re like us, the beach is the first place you will head once quarantine is over. If you’re not sure what to do, Barcelona has you covered with many beach locations to try. There’s nothing like making memories with friends, walking along the boardwalk, and enjoying lunch with your toes in the sand. Barceloneta beach is one of the best places to see in Barcelona once we can venture out again. Spacious beaches, artistic sculptures, and famous buildings like the Hotel W dotting the skyline set this beach apart, making it a fantastic choice for an authentic Barcelona experience in the sun.

Montjuic Parc de la Ciutadella

National museum of barcelona

We may be biased, but we’d say you can’t spend a day around Montjuic without visiting Terminal 42. We’re nearby, so plan a day of enjoying the amazing places to see in Barcelona, then come dine with us to discover fresh fusion of international and Catalan ingredients!

Parc de la Ciutadella

We predict Parc de la Ciutadella will be one of the most popular Barcelona parks for residents to visit once quarantine is lifted. A visit to this park transports you to a natural oasis without even leaving the city, making it one of the best places to see in Barcelona. If you’re wondering what to do, Barcelona parks are a must after quarantine ends. With sprawling green spaces, intricate sculptures, and tranquil bodies of water to throw a coin or paddle in a boat, this is the perfect stop for a dose of nature. We recommend packing a blanket and a picnic for a serene afternoon with your loved ones.

Los Bunkers del Carmel

Vista Barcelona des del TurĂ³ de la Rovira
Fondly referred to as “the bunkers” by locals, this spot is one of Barcelona’s hidden gems, and one of the best places to see in Barcelona at sunset. Due to its 360 degree views over the city, this hilltop spot once served to protect the city during the Spanish Civil War. Now, it makes an excellent spot for gazing our across the city with views of the coastline, Gaudi’s famous Sagrada Familia cathedral, and everything in between. The uphill hike to get there will be a great way to get active after quarantine, and the views from the top are well worth the effort. Pack a lunch and spend the afternoon taking in a bird’s eye view of your beloved city.

Parc Guell

Near the bunkers, you’ll also have access to one of the best Barcelona parks, Gaudi’s colourful dreamland, Parc Guell. While you do have to pay to enter, this park is a living, breathing homage to the colours, art, and nature of Barcelona. These elements make this Barcelona park a worthy contender and a great post-lockdown excursion. After so much time spent indoors, there is no better way to reconnect with our home than taking in the kaleidoscope of shattered tile mosaics that flow throughout this Barcelona park. You’ll dive into nature, be inspired by the creativity, and reconnect with all our incredible city has to offer.

The Barcelona Port

If you’re not sure what do to, Barcelona has a lively port waiting to be explored. The Barcelona Port is another excellent option for taking in the buzzing life of our hometown. There are plenty of outdoor areas for enjoying time with friends, people-watching, or going for a nice, long stroll. You can enjoy the port by day, taking in the exciting views and letting the endless activity energise you after all the time at home. You may also want to stay for an evening on the town, as the surrounding area comes to life at night with plenty of exciting restaurants and bars to explore!

Tibidabo

For a more adventurous Barcelona park excursion, explore Tibidabo, the soaring peak overlooking Barcelona. On top of this hill, you’ll find Sagrat Cor church which has stunning architecture and epic panoramic views of Barcelona and the surrounding area. Below the church, there’s a small amusement park where you can ride a Ferris wheel or roller coaster while enjoying the spectacular views. This Barcelona park provides fun for the whole family, making it an action-packed way to spend one of your first days out of quarantine.
